Chennai , April 27
When employees in the US' IT sector changed jobs for a raise, the US companies began outsourcing work from India for the cost advantage it gave them. Now a similar greed in India is making the US turn to China.
In the pursuit of money, jumping from one job to another, one may earn money but not learn much, so shift companies for the right reasons, said Ms Kalyani Narayanan, former President and CEO of AllFon SystemsLP, India, at the two-day short-term training programme on `Middleware Technologies' at Sri Sai Ram Engineering College under the aegis of Business Line club.
"If US investors are frustrated with you, they will look for some other market. So India's fortune in IT is in your hands," she cautioned.
Middleware technologies help one to connect the legacies with the advanced ones. We cannot throw away the old ones because of the huge investments made in them or for their specific usability, Ms Kalyani said, adding that middleware technologies are going to be the next big thing in India.
She also advised colleges to put distance learning facilities in place. Faculty should discuss industries' needs with recruiters and accordingly teach the students. Earlier, this two-day programme was inaugurated by Mr V. Balakrishnan, CIO, Polaris Software Labs, Chennai. The other speakers were Ms J. Vijayalakshmi, Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Applications, Sri Sai Ram Engineering College (SSEC) on `CORBA - Middleware;' Mr M. Kamalakannan, Principal Systems Analyst, National Informatics Centre, Beasant Nagar, Chennai on `World Wide Web and Middleware;' Mr S. P. Devarajan, Module Leader, American Megatrends India, on `COM Technologies and Web Services;' Mr Martin Mohanty, Senior Manager, IT, AREVA T&D India on `Middleware- Current Business Scenario' and Prof G. T. Manohar, formerly of IIT-Madras on `The Future of Middleware.'
Besides 200 delegates from various educational institutions in and around Chennai, others who attended the training programme were Dr S. Seetharaman, Principal, SSEC and Ms K. Shanthi, Head of the MCA Department of the college. |
